“Blue Lagoon” is not a lagoon, but the water has a pale blue hue against the shallow and bright bottom. Other bathing facilities have also been named “Blue Lagoon”, after Henry De Vere Stacpool’s book The Blue Lagoon of 1908 and a number of film adaptations of the book. In Sweden there are, among other things, the bathing area of the Blue Lagoon (built in a closed gravel pit) in Ekerö municipality, and on the northern Gotland there is the bathing facility Blå lagoon in a disused limestone quarry.
